Have I had a stroke and don't know it?

Question: I am a 52 year old recently retired high school teacher. I can barely walk because my right knee, leg and thigh prevent me from doing so. I wonder if I have had a stroke and don't know it. After I get up and start walking everything is fine. I have no problem after I have started walking. It's the getting started that is so painful and crippling. But the thing that gets me is that the pain is in my right thigh on down to mid leg area. Maybe I have injured it don't know it. Maybe it's osteoarthritis. Help!

Dr. Amy: Your symptoms could be due to any number of things; I therefore strongly encourage you to go to your medical doctor and discuss your concerns. Whenever you experience unexplained pain or a shift in how well you function, you should go to your doctor and get checked out. Good luck!
