I have just been diagnosed with diabetes and I have other health issues. There is a history of Alzheimer's in my family. What are the chances that I will NOT develop Alzheimer's?

Question:  I have just been diagnosed with diabetes type II. I am obese, I'm sedentary, and I've had coronary bypass surgery. My dad and most of his nine siblings had Alzheimer's. Is there ANY possibility that I WON’T develop Alzheimer's?

Dr. Amy:  This is really a question for your medical doctor. I encourage you to go to the doctor to explore this question, find out what you can do to improve your health, and put your mind at ease. I would also suggest you visit the Alzheimer’s Association web site if you have not done so ( It has a great deal of helpful information.
