A very good read and something I was thinking on just this morning. One drawback is that it will not include those whose relative does not qualify for Medicaid. Six years ago I took early retirement to care for our Mother, and live at the poverty level (according to IRS) because I receive no income. My Mother does have a small amount of money that she hopes to leave to all her children (4), hence no Medicaid. Knowing that some might "work the system" and practice deceit should not become the deterrent for honest caregivers to receive much needed and deserved income! Help from caring and knowledgeable caregivers and legislators is a must.

Two and a half years ago my 80 year old mother had her right leg amputated. The doctors said I could not bring her home as they believed I could not meet her needs. I eventually brought her home after therapy. She is bed bound so she needs constant care which I am and have been very willing to provide. We live in a very rural area in Oklahoma and the spuratic home health we have experienced has been awful! Oklahoma just passed the Cash and Counseling program but I am not able to find anyone to give me information about the application process. Would you be able to be of assistance to me? Thank you in advance.

I think the person that pays you as a caregiver has to be on Medicaid, which you have to apply for through DFCS( Dept. of Family and Childrens Services)

I live in a rural town in CO and have not heard of in home care. Do you have any clients in Southwest Colorado receiving your services?

Hi June, Just wanted you to know we saw your comment about looking for a Canadian program similar to Medicaid's "Cash and Counseling Program". We are looking into it and will post any information we find to the site. Thank you, Webmaster caregiverstress.com
